On working in-house…
Benefits
Working on an in-house team provides the unique opportunity to see the impact of the work first-hand and in real time. It’s rewarding watching our designs help the company grow and succeed. We have the luxury of gaining a deep knowledge of our audience over time, and are able to shift our strategy based on their changing behaviors. This quick feedback loop helps us make smarter decisions and keep improving the work. These long term learnings also give us the ability to refine and perfect the brand expression over time. We are singularly focused and therefore can evolve and grow the brand, keep things fresh and relevant, and build a brand that truly resonates with people and stands the test of time.
Challenges
It is both challenging and necessary to cut through the noise and be discerning about how the team spends its time and resources. It requires a high level of discipline to focus on the most impactful projects, rather than being spread too thin. Another challenge is producing exceptional results within preexisting constraints. This often requires being resourceful, innovative, and eager to deliver high quality work despite any limitations. When you truly lead a project from start to finish, it requires overseeing every detail and pushing forward despite obstacles.
On working with…
Others
We currently work with an agency called Superside to support high volume design projects, and our teams outside the US. In the past, we’ve worked with Planthouse, Datalands, and other small and medium sized agencies.
Guidelines
In addition to our slate of projects serving all areas of the business, each member of the Brand Design team at Handshake committed time and energy to creating comprehensive guidelines for their areas of expertise. We have a thorough library of brand resources that reflect visual, verbal, and motion guidelines, plus best practices per platform. Everything we do follows these identity guidelines and maps back to our identity systems. We also are committed to educating our internal partners on the brand guidelines and empowering them to speak up when they see an opportunity for growth or change, making the guides living documents that flex and evolve with our brand over time.
