In-house team Est. 2002
ACMI Design & Video
As part of the wider Brand team, the Design & Video teams are responsible for applying the visual identity consistently and creatively across the breadth of ACMI’s visual applications from exhibition content through to digital advertising, publications, merchandise and TVCs. We work collaboratively to develop campaign concepts for all our exhibitions and programs as well as being responsible for the rollout of all design and video assets across the institution both public facing and internal.

On working in-house…
Benefits
We all have a deep understanding of the visual identity and organizational objectives which allows us creative freedom to develop the visual identity and respond to new exhibitions and programs. ACMI is a constantly evolving and dynamic place to work where highly creative, conceptual approaches are valued and supported.
Challenges
As a predominantly government funded arts organization with an intent to be an internationally recognised museum, resourcing and production budgets are an ongoing challenge. Both the Head of Design and Video Manager, manage their teams and also work alongside the other designers to meet the workload.
On working with…
Others
North UK was engaged to develop our visual identity (launched in 2020) and the Design & Video teams worked collaboratively with North throughout this process. Once the guidelines were handed over our inhouse team was responsible for the rollout across all ACMI’s touchpoints including digital/physical signage, uniforms, video, printed collateral and branded merchandise. Whilst the vast majority of work is created inhouse we occasionally require freelance assistance in the rollout stages of major projects.
Guidelines
Whilst we have detailed brand guidelines supplied by North, the nature of ACMI’s exhibitions and programming requires that our campaigns and exhibitions attract specific audiences whilst responding to the conceptual rationale of the curatorial team. The museum and programming are constantly evolving and our visual identity allows us creative freedom to respond to new subject matter whilst elevating the ACMI brand both nationally and internationally.
