Susan Archie

Art Director

World of anArchie

Atlanta, GA

Susan Archie is a three-time Grammy winner in the field of Special Edition Box Set Packaging: Art Direction. After working for Fortune 500 corporate executives for more than a decade, in 1994 Susan was hired as a production artist at her first record label, Table of The Elements, releasing avant-garde, minimalist artists, reviewed in Art Forum as opposed to Spin. The Grammy award winning work came along with Revenant, whose aim was to highlight musical artists overlooked by the popular machine. To reproduce imagery along with essays, histories, and other texts to make a physical keepsake of the things you might find in the attic. A tiny museum in a box.

Along with her three Grammys, she designed packages for two other “Historical” Category Grammy winners: Art Rosenbaum: The Art of Field Recording and Woody Guthrie: Live Wire. She has been nominated for three other pieces; releases by Dust-to-Digital and Revenant.

She became art director for reissue label Tompkins Square in 2008, and finally made it to the “Bigs” in 2010 when Tompkins Square came under the Universal umbrella. Along with Tompkins Square she has time to work for a host of indie labels and artists: Jack White’s Third Man Records, Jefferson Holt’s Daniel 13, Chuck Leavell, Dave Holland, Rhys Chatham, Nick Tosches… she even did a vanity cd for… Paul Anka. Her work has been featured in Print, ID, Georgia Music, The Atlanta Journal, Rolling Stone, MOJO, The New York Times, The New Yorker, CBS Saturday Morning, and included in Steven Heller’s book, Typography Sketchbooks.

“Having clothed an alarmingly diverse range of sound with her vision, she has learned to make much with limited resources. Her work is rewarded with the respect and reverence of critics and peers alike.” — Doug DeLoach, Creative Loafing, ATL.
