CLIENT

Albu­querque Acad­e­my, locat­ed in Albu­querque, NM, is an inde­pen­dent, non-sec­tar­i­an, col­lege-prepara­to­ry day school for 1,065 boys and girls in grades 6–12.

APPROACH

The Stu­dent Design­ers built an all-school col­lab­o­ra­tive nov­el com­piled in a “choose your own adven­ture” for­mat. They gath­ered key con­tent to the sto­ry from the entire stu­dent body and wove it into a com­plex nar­ra­tive that moves through­out the pub­li­ca­tion. Addi­tion­al lay­ers include an analy­sis of Joseph Camp­bel­l’s “Hero’s Jour­ney,” the pro­duc­tion of indi­vid­ual sil­hou­ettes of the entire school, as well as the stan­dard year­book con­tent of doc­u­ment­ing the year for the stu­dent body.

Design challenges included the complex mapping of the “choose your own adventure” format to confirm correct flow and page numbering. Building the exquisite-corpse based novel proved a challenge for the copy team. The professional photographers worked with the students to shoot profile pictures of each student for silhouette creation. Production challenges included working within a limited budget and having to use inexpensive paper to keep costs low.
