Established in 1994, Mobilink is the leading telecommunication service provider in Pakistan offering voice (mobile) and data (internet) services to more than 36 million subscribers. This month Mobilink introduced a new logo, designed by Wolff Olins — led by its Dubai office — and a new tagline in Urdu, “Har Dil, Har Din” that translates to “Every Heart, Every Day”.
Established in 1992, Optus is the second largest telecommunications provider in Australia — Telstra being number one (see Brand New review here) — offering internet, mobile and landline services, and pay television. Over the weekend, Optus introduced a new identity designed by Sydney-based RE, advertising by M&C Saatchi, custom type by Mathieu Réguer, and character development by Marco Palmieri. Get ready to scroll, there is a lot to see.
Update June 24, 10:13pm: A handful of application images have been removed at the request of Optus.
Update June 25, 7:20am: Unfortunately, Optus has asked for all images that have not been released by them to be removed, so this post has been heavily edited and, for those reading it for the first time, will not be representative of my and the commenters’ opinions.

Ed.’s Notes: Strange-sounding name for global scaling. Lots of circles if that’s your thing. Video of the launch event and alternate square version of the logo below (or after the jump).

Select quote: “The new name is an Arabic word meaning ‘I want’. It conveys the aspirations of our customers and symbolises our commitment to enrich people’s lives.”

Launched in 2007 by Portugal Telecom, the largest telecommunications service provider in Portugal, MEO is a “triple-play” service provider that offers TV, internet, landline, and mobile phone. This month MEO introduced a new logo designed by Lisboa-based MyBrand (who also designed their previous logo) and tagline, “É Outra Vida” (Another Life).
Established in 1971, Shaw Communications is a Canadian communications and media company that provides broadband cable television, Internet, home phone, telecommunications services, and satellite direct-to-home services to over 3.4 million customers combined. They also operate 18 specialty networks, including HGTV Canada, Food Network Canada, HISTORY and Showcase. As I think I understand it, Shaw ranks fourth in the telecom business in Canada behind giants Bell, Rogers, and Telus, all of whom have very strong presence so Shaw needs any help it can get to get chosen by customers. Yesterday, they introduced a refreshed logo, a new tagline — “You won’t miss a thing.” — new national TV commercial by Vancouver-based Rethink, and a couple of new mascots, Bit and Bud.
Launched this month, Weve is a joint venture between the (also newly launched) EE, Telefonica UK (O2), and Vodafone UK — the three largest mobile network operators in the UK that together account for 80% of its mobile customers. Weve is meant to “create and accelerate the development of mobile marketing and wallet services” and provide “the ability for advertisers, retailers, banks and many other organisations to connect to a large-scale mobile commerce platform via a consistent set of technologies and standards, without having to duplicate effort.” In other words, as I understand it, it’s a fancy way of easing the process for the three mobile providers to monetize their platforms. The name is explained in the tagline, “Weve joined up mobile”, as in “we’ve” as in “weve”. Clever, but a little odd. The new name and identity have been created by London-based SomeOne.

Established in 1994, Mobiltel, more commonly known as M-Tel (now just Mtel), is the largest telecommunications mobile company in Bulgaria. Owned by Cablevision, Optimum offers cable, Internet, and voice service throughout the New York and New Jersey area, with another area of service throughout Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, and Utah. Optimum has had a case of logo-itis, with far too many logos (see one of the first images below) mostly due because they separated their offerings as Optimum Online, Optimum Interactive, Optimum Voice, plus the main Optimum logo. Last week Optimum introduced a new logo designed by New York, NY-based COLLINS:, and new advertising by Mother NY.
