Here are our favorite twelve menus shown on Art of the Menu this year. We will be back with our regular programming on January 9, 2018. No other posts will be published until then.
If the actual design of this menu were better it would have taken one of the top spots. The use of pegboard is quite original and likely to spur imitators.
This drinks menu looks as if it fell from Paul Revere’s coat pocket. Classy and leathery.
The combination of gray fabric with the accent yellow and green is pretty great as is the slightly odd typographic choice for the covers.
I don’t usually go for photo-driven menus but this one committed fully to showcasing their drinks in an interesting way and each drink is portrayed like a little work of surrealist art.
I still don’t know why I gravitate towards these menus so much… the typography is simple but pretty great from top to bottom.
If you are going to go Viking you go the full Viking… this looks like it was hand-sewn by Erik the Red.
Great typography on the menus and a clever way of hanging/displaying the menus with a leather hook. The complementary drinks menu in kraft paper is quite nice as well.
A bright and happy combination of colored paper and cool boards with the logo watermarked on the backs.
Super elegant with the dark brown cover and gold foil while also very playful with the meandering “O”s.
Every year, a simple menu like this, is what gets me… great shift in sizes and trims to create a layered feel, a great selection of colored papers, an unexpected binding device, and, of course, killer type and layout.
