Armin and Bryony,

Happy anniversary.

You started it all, and nothing has ever been the same.

Armin and Bryony (and the authors who have been along for the ride):

(I wish I could fully express my gratitude to you two for creating Speak Up by just typing in some words that are put together in a very clever and meaningful way. Unfortunately I'm not as good at that as I like to pretend I am but I'll try anyway...)

With as much excitement and humbleness as possible, I want to say thank you for creating such a fantastic resource and a lively community for designers/illustrators/typographers everywhere. I have grown so much more as a designer in the last year than I would have if I never found Speak Up.

Congratulations and Thank You.

Hi Armin & Bryony

I do not know how to express it. It is an exciting experience every time i log on to your site. I do wonder what makes me keep coming back! May be it is just pure love for communication with like-minded people all over the world.(difficult to find in Saudi Arabia where i am making a living now)

It is a virtual communication temple for graphic designers.

I can't let a day go by without visiting it. I love the pure and transparent communication about everything, especially graphic design. Here, everything is always under consideration. It is not just an online forum or blog - it is the life, lust, work, creativity, business, issues, problems, frustrations and everything about graphic designers around the world.

Thank you and keep going.

David, after that I think we will be denying photograph privileges to our interns… Specially during lunch. (For those wondering, David was an intern with Lisa Strausfeld's team a few months ago, you can see some of his experience here)

Shahla, Pedro is my dad, so since Speak Up is our baby

Hello Armin & Bryony...

There's no place like home, but this is a wonderful little roach motel...oh, juuuuust joking...this is, as UMD says, a virtual communication temple...you made a good thing happen.

I admire you all and hope to someday be rambling on about designy things again...

Don't let modesty allow you to underestimate what you have accomplished with SpeakUp. Its become one of those one-of-a-kind places on the intarwebs that embodies everything the web should be for communities like us.

It fills a large void.

Thanks for all the hard work. The consistency with which you maintain the quantity and quality of content is inspiring.

Arm and Byrony:

Speak Up, what can I say about Speak Up that has not already been said?

In it's infancy there was maybe about three to five people actually talking about Design. Sort of like a PARTY LINE.

In the beginning there was TAN, JonSel, Sam, Graham, Norbert, Hirant (hhp) and a few others. Norbert and Hirant (hhp) moved on to Typophile.com

In those Days I was just lurking. I was posting on Brand Channel.com. I always found the Speak Up's Forum searching for material on Corporate Identity. I didn't say anything because nothing was being said I didn't already know. I didn't come back every day. The site always came up when I did periodic searches.

What Hooked me, as I said last year was the Discussion on PAUL RAND.

For the Record, Brand Channel.com started the Trend to be Accurate, Fair and Honest. Brand Channel was Bigger and had more participants. Brand Channel pre-dates Speak Up by one year and some months.

No comparison. There isn't any Design weblog like Speak Up in Cyber Space.

Although, most of the Discussion was about General Graphic Design which doesn't interest me. It is Corporate Identity and Critique of Identity Design that has gained Speak Up Notoriety and placed it in the History Books.

Now the magazines are trying to copy our Identity Critique Format which doesn't actually work for a magazine unless you allow an immediate feedback. Which has to be inclusive and can only be accomplished online.

Three years old, time really travels. I've been aboard for all three years. Only counting the times I actually posted which is about 2- 2 1/2 years.

Fond memories and I trust many more.

It’s like hanging at the water cooler or favorite tavern of the industry’s best and brightest. As a student and future professional, this is invaluable access. I’ve learned more here than in most lectures.

Thank You!

Yes I know Papa’ Pedro : )

It’s just that Speak Up could be considered as a cute little grand-daughter, too!

I know, I know, I always go on about the gender thing but then turn around and make comments using man’ or he’ as the primary human identifier…

I was also refering to real’ babies just to add pressure to your little nest-building/family project —just kidding. You and Bryony have plenty of time.

Though we all love this baby of yours and play with it all the time, I hope when the time comes for a real one this virtual baby’ doesn't get sent away to boarding school’. Metaphor for Speak Up getting so BIG that you and Bryony hardly ever have time and therefore delegate the tasks : /

Actually, it’s all good. Or along the line of a famous maven’s saying: “It’s a good thing.” —It’ll be a good thing as you both keep doing what you do so well.

Best wishes for Speak Up as it ventures beyond the toddler’ years.

Another way to say it is Happy Fourth!!!!

The debate rages on in some parts of the world. If you’re precise you should be saying happy fourth’ because the third year is over already…

Speak Up begins it’s 4th year.
