Spamming Speak Up

Today we have been diligently bombarded by spam through out the day. We are sorry for any inconveniences this might be causing, and we are working away to block the problem once and for all. Thanks for your patience.

we have also been getting intensely spammed at DesignCrit for the past couple of days as well... tho we use Wordpress not MT - maybe the spamer union just settled a new contract?

What better way to let you know that Armin has safely arrived in Sunny San Diego for his guest appearance at the Y Design Conference, than here at his virtual home. He has probably been too modest to talk about what an honor this is. We are looking forward to this live and in person real time encounter.

Go Armin.

Please pardon this additional spam ;)... So who's minding the store, by the way?

His (much) better half who will be joining you tomorrow a.m.

Mitch, what are you guys doing to prevent or fix the issue?

well... there are a few plugins for wordpress that help to flag and delete spam, but mostly just going in by hand and batch-deleting the posts. usually the plugins help for a while then the spammers find a new IP or whatever and it starts again.

I have no idea what happened. We haven't had an attack like this in some time now. The system we use, MT BlackList, is pretty bulletproof until spammers find a way around it — like now. Thanks to my dearest, better half for keeping everything in check during my five-and-a-half hour flight across the nation.

BTW… It's fuckin' awesome weather out here…

Thanks for having me Don. Even if I just said this to you already 3o minutes ago.

If I'm reading this right, it looks like Wordpress is guilty of doing some spamming on it's own.

Ouch. Mr. Socksmell - I remember hearing something about your laptop being misplaced - but never that it was lost and not recovered?!

365+ apologies for each day that has lapsed between then and now. That just sucks. It has never happened in ten years of the conference - and I hope it never will again.

soccer moms vs the looser, surfing crowd

Last I checked designers came in all shapes and sizes. Outside of NY there is more than just the traditional black garb.

I enjoyed your homage to Woody Pirtle at Y9 as well as your rant. Thought you missed an opportunity to take advantage of Y as a bigger platform for yourself and stepping stone for future speaking / judging opportunities. Three of this year's speakers have been tapped for the AIGA Boston Conference already. Love your work and insight - wished for more of your work and less about everybody ripping everybody off - didn't really jive with the moxY theme. But you've got Moxie.

Armin was impressive - and in true Speak Up form built a a diverse range of ideas and opinions into his presentation. He also started a new job today in NY - but I'll let hime share the news.

Spam for lunch.

"soccer moms vs the looser, surfing crowd" was a quote from one of your native Diegans. Not my words, but its definately more "clicky" there than in NYC (believe it or not)

now theres an old stereotype. Have you ever been here? Been to an AIGA event? I never could figure that one out. As far as "stepping stone for future speaking / judging opportunities" I dont really aim for that sort of "stage fame", though I dont mind acting the fool. I was pretty bad at "Y". Nerves maybe. I dont know. It felt good getting booted off the stage for exposing the all the Brian Cronin rip-offs. One kid came up to me afterwards and siad the best part of my presention was not getting off the stage. Yes, he was a surfer dude.

Yup - I'm from NY - been to the city many times. AIGA events as well. Love the city. The black garb remark is a bad cliché. Sorry I forgot to insert the smiley face ;). Although at the BranDesign Conference in 1998 I think dark gray was the new black.

It felt good getting booted off the stage for exposing the all the Brian Cronin rip-offs.

The only reason was due to time constraints and a tight schedule regarding leasing the museum space for the day. Still I enjoyed your gig here and it made people talk - and react - which I think is the point to begin with. I hope your experience was more rewarding than it is sounding.

No, it was fun. I enjoyed it. The computer thing was weird though. I left it under one of the tables upstairs. called the next day... no computer... called again...and no answer from the AIGA, SD team. You would think the AIGA could afford some type of insurance. I'll bet if it were Sagmiester's computer there wouldve been some "looking into".

Some was kind enough to mail a print (the wire frame thing) but AIGA dues wouldve been nice (I asked, no answer).

We'll let the suspense — or rumors, whatever comes first — trickle in.

Does Sagmeister even have a laptop or was it just a metaphor?…

A valid point - we need to make sure it is in place for future events. There is a general liability policy, but not anything that covers personal items. Again my apologies - but condolences do not replace lost files or hardware. If you would have tripped on the stage and bumped your head, it would have been covered. I'll make sure we revisit this discussion in our local Y post mortem assessment.

Maybe Sagmeister’s clothes would have been found, but he probably doesn’t need them anyway...

Well, actually when I went into Starbucks today; there was our Armin behind the counter! He said something about "branding research"; made a decent redeye; but was way too slow on the register.

Hey Armin! Nice apron!

Next time, I'll bring exact change.

Hey congratulations, Armin. Great colleagues, great opportunities and free lunch, what could be better?

Prediction: Speak Up and Design Observer will merge within six months. It just makes good synergistic sense, not to menton all the Brand Equity that can be capitalized on. I suggest Speak, Designer over Design Up (though Design Up has a nice ring for any Red Sox fans).

Is it true that Pentagram sneaks a tiny processor developed by Yale into the skull of new employees? We'll know Armin has been assimilated the first time he makes a reference to Barthes.

Nope, they just mix a concoction in the on-site lunch.
