For a few weeks after having arrived in New York we’ve been wanting to have a city-warming party, but it seemed gratuitous to just have a party for the sake of it. What we needed was an excuse… Columbus Day? Not that happy a day. Halloween? Ew, no, too trite. Thanksgiving? Too far away. Then it came to us: Day of the Dead. A rich, creepy, joyful, sad, colorful Mexican tradition. (We’ve previously celebrated it here on Speak Up to little acclaim, no screen shots of the “event” unfortunately). Yes, Day of the Dead, would be (and is!) our excuse.
Read on after the poster for all the info.
So, with that said, we would like to invite you (if you happen to be in the New York metropolitan area) to celebrate a) Day of the Dead, b) Speak Up’s arrival in the city and — why not? — c) the beautiful profession that is graphic design.
Thursday, November 4th at 7:30 PM at:
Plantain (on the upstairs lounge)
20 West 38th Street
New York, NY
We will have some food to warm your belly and some sugar “Calaveritas” to freak you out. We would love to buy your drinks, but we need a heck of a lot more advertisers to afford that luxury. Bring your money then, to enjoy Plantain’s delicious Mojitos.
If you would like to come, you can just show up and say hi, but we would absolutely love it if you let us know so that we can prepare accordingly. Please RSVP (to Bryony) if your heart so desires.
Hope to see you there.
if i'm there, i'll be there.
