These are some places that are in more need of a face lift than Michael Jackson:
- HOW magazine: HOW long has this been like it is? 10 years.
- Emigre: as much as I like them, they need to move out of 1990, even though they got a small shot of Botox when they started using verdana.
- TDC: for an organization that focuses on typography, this is not very encouraging
- Segura Inc.: Another one that is still caught in the 90’s.
- TDR: time to move on guys, people need new stuff to imitate, they are running out of “ideas”.
And some people that just need to get on the internet (it is the year 2002 people):
- Stefan Sagmeister: just how long are we supposed to wait before we can see him take advantage of the web. I found some sort of web site, but not quite what you would expect from him.
- James Victore: ditto.
- I can’t think of any more.
You're not kidding about How magazine. Two years ago (2), they published the direction they were moving in. Complete with concepts and layouts. It looked to be mostly finished. While I didn't think it was the greatest design, it was FAR better than the current iteration.
I read an editorial response recently to a reader question about the phantom site redesign. The response was that they didn't have the time or money to finish the site and launch it.
Seems a bit hypocritical after reading all the articles about taking care of your own business and doing whatever it takes to build up your self promotion.
