Tomorrow night’s State of the Union Address by President Obama will feature an enhanced viewing experience at www.whitehouse.gov as web viewers can follow along with charts, graphs and other content as the President delivers his speech live to the nation. Also, I heard a rumor that in a showing of bi-partisan unity, Democrats and Republicans were planning to sit amongst each other, rather than in two traditional demarcated groups. If this is true, I’m sure there’s a snazzy red/blue television infographic in our immediate future.

Sarah of inkymole created illustrations, lettering, and wallpaper designs for The Robert Burns Museum in Scotland. She says it’s her biggest project to date and she has photos on her blog to show off her amazing work.

For Stefan Sagmeister’s class at the SVA MFA program — which challenges to students to touch someone’s heart through design — Leen Sadder did “Spoonful of Sugar.” She hand-lettered the lyrics of the titular song by Mary Poppins, prepared a bag of chocolate-dipped spoons and escorted people without umbrellas around New York on a rainy day.

Happy Beer Can Day: the first canned beer in the U.S.A. was sold this day, January 24, 1935 in Richmond, Virginia. The sheer breadth of 12 oz. can packaging design since then is simply astounding.
