This has to be one of the hardest kind of projects. Luke Hayman redesigns Cosmopolitan, one of the largest magazine franchises in the world. You can’t mess too much with the ditzy formula or over-sophisticate it. I think Luke did a great job keeping the same vibe while adding some design sense.

James Niehues, 65, is the man behind the trail map. His hand-painted panoramas have been reproduced into pocket-sized maps handed out by ski resorts all over the world.

“I think it would be neat if there were still some hand-painted illustrations. But I may very well be the last trail map artist to use a brush.”

In Brazil the different groups of police, military, and other cartel busters compile seized goods to form the letters of their acronym so that when the photo shows up in newspapers everybody knows who was responsible for the bust. Apparently, based on the Flickr description, there is a lettering course taught at the police academy to learn how to do this.
