Clas­sic Col­or is a print­er locat­ed in Broad­view, IL, spe­cial­iz­ing in high qual­i­ty print and print pro­duc­tion for every­one from small busi­ness­es to large corporations.

APPROACH

Clas­sic Col­or asked us to design their annu­al hol­i­day card. With very few restrictions—and great print­ing resources—our approach was to show the tech­ni­cal excel­lence and care they put into the exe­cu­tion of all their pieces. We also want­ed to cre­ate a clas­sic feel­ing card that peo­ple could enjoy, inter­act with and keep, rather than ditch straight into the trash bin. After see­ing cards from past years, there was only one rule we decid­ed to imple­ment: no Christ­mas trees. The solu­tion was an ana­log ani­mat­ed card using an opti­cal illu­sion to show move­ment by mov­ing a mask across the card. 

The biggest challenge was understanding the optical illusion and how it worked. Once we learned how to create it, we were able to add colors and test a variety of options. On the production side, designing a simple card with a space for the plastic sheet to slide in and out required a little bit of fussing with. Overall we were very pleased with the outcome of the piece and all the new tricks we added to our bag.
