Applicable lessons learned are golden when a project gets to be reinvented from the ground up with each issue. Some subtle, and others bolder, the changes from the first set of prints to the second show beautiful growth and understanding of the medium and the product.

Project Description
The Canadianist is a series of foil and letterpress prints by our favourite Canadian illustrators. We aim to produce beautiful, impressive artwork that celebrates the finest in illustration in Canada. So much illustration ends up between pages and on screens: we aim to elevate our art by having it up on more people's walls. In The Canadianist: Issue 2, we celebrate some of our country’s most cherished cultural symbols — just in time for the 150th birthday of confederation. Produced entirely in Canada, these prints are letterpressed onto thick cover stock in two luscious inks and one hit of gorgeous copper foil.Production Lesson(s)
The Canadianist Issue 2 is our second time around with this format, so we were able to apply a lot of what we learned the first time around. A key shift for us was creating an even stronger and clearer brand and bringing it more front and centre. Another lesson we learned was to direct our artists to create artwork that is more clear and easy to identify at a glance — hence the theme of Icons. We want to create great, original artwork that resonates with a broad audience. On the technical side, we had an issue with laying down large areas of the copper foil. At first, we were using 130# of Classic Crest, but the foil tended to blemish and blister. Going down to 100# mysteriously solved the problem.
