I would love to see the ink experimentation that took place for this print grow further into something that could be commercialized. Biodegradable ink that is actually nutritious for the environment versus just non-harmful.

We wanted to show some serious love for our Mother (Earth) for Earth Day 2017. Our goal was be as environmentally friendly as possible, so we designed this to be printed on pulp seed paper with ink make from egg yolks mixed with charcoal. Once the viewer is done enjoying it they can plant it, water it, and watch it grow!Production Lesson(s)
Concerned that acrylic ink could effect germination, we created egg tempera out of egg yolks and ground charcoal which offers the permanence of paint but is able to break down once planted. This paint is very runny so allowing it to dry out thickens the mixture, making it easier to pull through a silkscreen. Seed paper is also incredibly porous so there were many, many mess up prints that have now been planted.
