Why should you be limited by the size of the press? By brainstorming with the printing team a solution was devised to get that which was wanted but seemed impossible, when it comes to the LP package.

Project Description
For The Current's 10th anniversary they wanted to produce a special edition of the Live Current series. This year the Live Current album was accompanied by the Cover to Cover album; both of which needed to visually celebrate The Current's community of listeners. In response to the theme I created simplified, whimsical illustrations to show the life, energy, and emotion of The Current's community. The paired down illustrations are made up of 3 spot colors and take advantage of overprinting. All that considered, letterpress was the perfect way to print the vinyl and CD jackets.Production Lesson(s)
Due to the size of the substrate needed and the size limitations letterpress machines can print, we couldn't run the LP jackets on a single sheet. After some experimenting Studio on Fire figured that we could break the piece into two separate sheets then print, cut, glue and fold them together to get the final double-pocket gatefold jackets.
