Project Description
Font Things First is a curated collection of typographic work from type specimens I created for new fonts designed by The Northern Block. The typography is thoroughly considered in order to be contextually appropriate to the character and desired function of the font. It showcases the different strengths and personalities of various fonts, while creating juxtaposition from page to page.Production Lesson(s)
I learned so much about the ins and outs of the print process dealing with it personally from start to finish, notably balancing a suitable finishing technique with feasibility and of course budget. I originally had coptic binding in mind, but realized after doing a proof the page count was too slim, so it wouldn’t have the maximum effect. I still wanted to incorporate a stitched binding so looked into singer sewn binding which thankfully fit my budget better as well as being smart enough to stand out. Aside from that the rest of the process was relatively straight forward. I found choosing the suitable paper stock easy because of my samples selection and expansive collection of great books! I’m really happy how Font Things First turned out and thank Pressision for their guidance and expertise.
