Project Description

There was a networking event, scores of people just like me would be trying to be remembered. I needed something innovative, it had to leave an impression. If I was able to engage the curiosity of the recipient I might just stand out from the crowd.

To create the business card design I drew upon the arrangement of letters I had previously used in the production of various word clocks. The idea evolved from square cut-outs to a landscape fold and on to the final circle hole design.

The details are revealed as the abstract pattern of dots is folded over the seeming random grid of letters. When the card is fully opened the website is masked and the dots only show white.

The card is intended to provide an immediate curiosity and a lasting sense of innovation. The folding reveal provides a personal recall every time the recipient uses the card.

Production Lesson(s)

The cards were self produced, office photocopier, workshop laser cutter. Lining up the cuts with the printing required a carefully produced template. Providing a thick black edge was effective in hiding the smoke and burn marks from the laser. The laser cutting also created a lot of confetti!”
