I hate starting this post with an apology — not because I don’t like apologizing but because it represents a relative failure on our part — but the production of the latest FPO Awards book is awfully late. It should have been out in January. The people who entered the competition deserve a timely delivery and we didn’t, so, sorry.
Part of it was our fault, in that we were about a month behind on the layout and type corrections on the book but our printer for the last four books, ZRH Print, really screwed us. They were slow and they got the cover wrong. Not that you would know. The book, as you will see in the pictures below, looks perfectly fine. And it is. But…
Bryony and I debated whether to let you all know about this or not and we had agreed to just let it go, but we can’t. The cover paper is a mirror paper and anything that you see printed white was meant to be free of ink so you would get this kind of creepy reflections through the watercolor-ey FPO logo but the production people in China decided to put a flood of white underneath because the green spot color wasn’t holding on right. Instead of checking with us, they just did it. So they completely ruined our concept. Again, the book is a perfectly fine specimen but it eats at me knowing how much cooler it could have been. Now you know.
Anyway… The book is now available for purchase and since we are shaking things up a bit on the next Call for Entries launching in April, book prices have dropped, high-res PDFs are free for download, and all winners (past and present) can be viewed for free online. (Still, buy a book!). All options available from the link above.
