Gilah Press + Design

Gilah Press + Design created these new boxes to replace Charm City Cook’s original, more complicated packaging system. With a custom die, the new system requires no tape or glue to hold the boxes together, and the fresh letterpressed design supplants the need for extra decorative elements to spice up the presentation.

Project Description

Amy came to us with the challenge of simplifying her existing brownie boxes, which consisted, at the time, of a box that required taping, a paper wrap and a sticker to hold everything together. The process was becoming a bit cumbersome for her as her business continued to grow. We designed a die for the box, which includes a self locking tab, requiring no tape or glue. The use of bold design combined with letterpress printing gave the box alone enough visual interest without needing all of the bells and whistles. The simplicity of the box creates a professional look and saves the Charm City Cook herself a lot of time in the process.

Production Lesson(s)

Our biggest challenge with this project was the die cutting. The chipboard wanted to crack a bit along the score lines. We ended up using a channel creasing matrix on some of the scores, but not on others, depending upon the angle the grain was running in the paper on certain areas of the die.”
