The past two or three years we’ve had 3 Best Of posts, two for each half of the year and one only for posters but this year there were a minimal amount of poster submissions and I didn’t have enough to devote a post to them, so this year it’s only two posts. Here are the best print projects from January to June of 2013. Will post the second one next week and we will be back with our regular programming on January 6, 2014.

Some questions are best left NOT unanswered, like “I wonder if we can brand this leather cover like a cow?” Boom. An actual, branded leather cover.
11 — Eric Harvey Business Cards
Starting from a digitally printed business card with MOO, Eric has pimped out each of his business cards to feel like a luxurious one-of-a-kind piece with a sumptuous red wax seal.
Printed on gold paper, the cover for this brochure. That’s it. That’s all that needs to be said about it. Gold. Paper. Printed on.

9 — 2013 Isometric Risograph Calendar
I have to admit that on the blog this piece didn’t look like much but since I was privvy to a physical copy you will have to trust me that this is quite striking and tactile set of prints. Waxy and abstract.
While this book wins simply by being covered in white Yeti fur, the whole package is perfectly designed and detailed, including the inside pages printed in only silver, black, and red
I know, I know… again with the gold! It just looks so fanciful and fun, specially on pitch black paper.
6 — M-trospective: Michael Lee’s First Decade
I love a good, complex fold that manages to turn an unassuming sheet of paper into a full unpacking experience. This one almost ends up looking like a lady’s clutch bag when folded.
The registration on this 4-color silkscreen poster is super tight, making all the detailed robots shine. Plus: robots.
4 — GabeFerreira.com Experimental Business Cards
On the surface — what’s left of it — this feels like an easy concept and execution, but it’s quite genius and it’s a card that you can’t put down right away.
3 — Lettres du Havre
What looks like any other big-ass book is, indeed, another big-ass book but one with exceptionally sturdy binding that held 402 loose sheets, two different page formats and five different paper stocks. It’s also beautifully designed and paced inside.
2 — BMW M6 The Making of an MPRINT
To print these postcards, Classic Color rigged a BMW with an ink delivery system that inked the tires that drove over hundreds of sheets of paper that were then trimmed to become said postcards. Watch the video of the making of here.
There are a few things that made this blind lettepress postcard my favorite of the first half of the year. First among them being that I love blind letterpress. Then there is the delivery of the word “Fucking” in syrupy sweet script lettering. Finally, there is the encouragement to rub the postcard against some dirt to make the message readable. Fucking charming, ain’t it?
