Project Description
Working with artist Carlo Van de Roer to create a printed promo showcasing his ethereal light driven photographs. Including his Portrait Machine Project with portraits of notable cultural figures Miranda July, Terence Koh, Philippe Starck among others. The goal was to create a piece that best represented light coming out of darkness. A matte black card stock was chosen for its heavy density to hold the light-filled satin interior cards in a folded folio. Interior cards were coated in an overall aqueous coating to create an even more rubber-like satin finish, finishing off each photograph in a thick spot UV for a luscious gloss.Production Lesson(s)
This was a challenging print job, mainly because of the multiple gradient color tones in Carlo's photography that needed to translate into a small printed offset promo. Carlo and I are both sticklers for high quality at any price, including driving printers up the wall! Take the time to develop great relationships with printers and their management teams. Judy Riggiri at Unimac went above and beyond for such a relatively small project. Without their support this project would have ended up in the garbage. The final print and color reproduction ended up perfect!
