It’s ridiculous, it’s impossible, it’s a success was the theme of the 11th Festival of Clube de Criativos de Portugal, a theme that was carried on to its annual report.
In an area where exposure to danger is constant, the fear of risk can kill good ideas. The danger of failing, the danger of overcoming the briefing, the danger of not having an idea, of missing the objectives, of the client’s dislike, everything can cause the fear of taking the risk. The purpose of this festival was, therefore, to reward the riskier, most innovative and courageous ideas.
For the first time, it was no longer a book but a product for the digital world: a DVD with the recording of the projects in the annual contest and a brochure with the message board and focus on the grand prize.
The graphical language, inspired by the identity of the Festival, took advantage of the ambiguity of the definition of risk: are risks and scribbles that are designed to talk about the importance of risk. In the brochure a few illustrations of the text challenge the reader. There is a hangman game. There is a hobby to join dots wich result is only one risk. There is a man-bird almost hidden in the fold of the binding to celebrate perhaps the greatest risk of always: to fly. And there’s a challenge to face the world of communication: without fear (“sem medo”).
But the directory does not seem to be for one to open or read: when we handle it for the first time, we do not know what to do with it: we must take risks, open the package and go against the directions of the tape that seals the card. And then review the best ideas of the year, which are immortal.
I’ve said it before, and I say it again: I am a sucker for all things interactive and tactile and I surely want to get my hands on one of these directories to have some fun digging into its many aspects.
