Temporary Change

Now, don’t freak out. I know the colors are bright, ok, very bright. The typeface is weird and there are a bunch of little skulls. But it’s just for a few days, the green and gray you’ve come to enjoy will be back. I’m doing this to celebrate Day of the Dead, a Mexican tradition filled with color (and lots of food) to remember the people who have left us. It’s not a sad tradition, but one where delicacies are made and flowers are offered to the dead. It sounds weird, but it beats Halloween’s consumerism.

For a moment, I thought something 'extra' had been put in my Lucky Charms this morning.

When clicking on the beautiful masthead for day of the dead I thought I would have encountered something more than a google search!!! being all of us designers!!!!

I think a great tradition is the "ofrendas" (or offerings) which show the incredible artistic resource of the mexican people.

Will try to find out how to post some images of many photos I've taken of the ofrendas and let you enjoy them too.

Will be back.

Armin,

I love it! Love it all - esp the change in the logo! I'd be interested in knowing the font name and where you got the groovy art. I know P22 has something like this.

I'll have to think about that. Maybe...

It's all part of font famliy called 'Santo Domingo' and I think it's from a mexican typographer. I don't know if any font house sells it.

Now, how did I get it? I wish I knew. One of those things you just don't question.

How nice is this.

And I love that DoD stuff. My costume is actually the Grim Reaper (and I actually have a for-real scythe - it's like 7 feet tall with a blade of like 3 feet), and I wish I was in Guadalajara tomorrow.

I have to agree, the temporary look and feel of speak up is something to love, not something we see everyday on the web.

You really should consider adding a little color to your pallete now that I have a comparison to make.

Hi,

These are the promised pictures of Day of the Dead in Mexico.

Some show the "ofrendas/offerings", others the cementeries, a couple public "ofrendas/offerings" in public places and finally a couple showing the influx of Halloween in our culture.

Please apologizee the fact that I couldnt set up a nice way of browsing the pictures but was short of time and wanted to have them prior to both Hallowen and Day of the Dead.

Promise will set up the picture viewing in an easier and friendlier way in short.

Trick or treat!!!!

Ok dude ; )

I am definitely considering adding some color due to the response, maybe not as bright as this though.
