CLIENT

Cadre Press is a divi­sion of Cadre LLC, a mul­ti-dis­ci­pli­nary design stu­dio in Austin, TX, that focus­es on visu­al, archi­tec­tur­al, and expe­ri­ence design. Rose New­ton is the cre­ative direc­tor for the visu­al design stu­dio while her hus­band, Ter­ry New­ton, AIA, is the stu­dio head for the archi­tec­ture side.

BRIEF

Hes­ton No. 1, Hes­ton No. 2, and Hes­ton No. 3 are a series of hand print­ed let­ter­press posters using LEGO pieces on a Van­der­cook No. 1 Proof­ing Press. The phras­es are HTML-ed quotes from the Charl­ton Hes­ton movies Soy­lent Green, Plan­et of the Apes, and The Ten Com­mand­ments.

APPROACH

The prints express the com­bi­na­tion of var­i­ous cul­tur­al influ­ences (HTML, LEGO, and the resur­gence of let­ter­press) typ­i­fied by an over the top Charl­ton Hes­ton quote.
