For the past five years, excluding the economically horrendous 2009, we have sent out a 1-color, 4-by-9-inch letterpress card printed by Rohner Letterpress to friends, family, and colleagues. While most years we’ve been pretty lighthearted about it, this year we couldn’t avoid the “occupy” theme that flooded the zeitgeist on Q3, specifically the 99 against 1 mentality. Folks can complain and protest all they want about inequalities, but at the end of the day we each control our outcome by the actions and attitude we take. We can blame others or we can do something the heck about it. Our card has 99 things anyone can do for a better year, from the serious to the silly to the raunchy.
Production-wise, this is the easiest job of the year. I e-mail Rohner and ask them what paper they have leftover from other jobs or in stock that we can use. They send me a list and I pick one that looks good. I design the card. Send it by e-mail to Rohner. Get a PDF proof back. Wait one to two weeks. Bam. 300 cards on our doorstep. Always perfect. Always deeply pressed.
