I first examined the brand’s history and the competition that the it faced within its price range and product offerings. After determining that the target audience were predominately women who sought a haircare system, I tried to narrow down product lines into basic categories of care. I also wanted the line to be able to stand out on the shelf amongst its competitors and give it a consistent voice and attitude. Researching the brand’s rich American history made me move towards the style of using pop-art inspired illustrations from that time period to create a cast of women for the packages. Writing the copy for the bottles was fun and challenging — playing against the provoking illustrations and communicate the emotions of women who have had bad hair days. The hope is that by using the product, VO5 will rid you of your hair woes!
