Organized by UnderConsideration, the Brand New Awards is an annual judged competition, now in its fourth year, that celebrates the best identity work produced around the world during each year. It is a direct extension of the popular blog Brand New. As a response to other award formulas, past and present, the BNAs strive to provide a competition that places as much importance on concept and execution as it does toward strategy and business decisions by focusing on the work itself, the process, and the client’s involvement through a panel of judges consisting of both designers and clients while all the winners will get to display their work and include their client’s point of view.
The driving concept for it was “naive excitement” — a trait all designers should at some point have and feel about their work, as it if could win anything! — using exuberantly overdesigned typefaces that make up for lack of usefulness with chutzpah and ambition to catch someone’s attention. Plus, stars!
